No. Not really. Just like there aren't any specific facial characteristics that differentiate French people from German people. You really can't tell until they open their mouths and say something.
Believe me, I grew up in both Japanese and Chinese communities (my mom was an ESL tutor) and when I thought I had it down, along came someone else who looked Chinese but was actually Japanese. There's no way of telling.
I get angry when some people take offense to others not being able to differentiate, as if it's racist not to know what the origins of every Asian stranger are just by looking at them. This is ludicrous. We don't have those expectations of any other race. We don't expect ourselves to guess if a black woman is Ethiopian or Jamaican, or if someone is Hawaiian or Filipino, or Russian or Algerian, or English or American. So why should we expect ourselves to know if someone is Chinese or Japanese without asking them? Are there specific facial characteristics that differentiate Chinese people from Japanese people?
Chinese people tend to be taller than the japanese. Japanese use more makeup than chinese people. Chinese people like to look natural so they don't wear as much. But really, it all depends on the person. I'm half chinese/korean and people always mistaken me for being japanese. Are there specific facial characteristics that differentiate Chinese people from Japanese people?

It just shows how you generally can't tell Chinese, Japanese, or Korean people apart.
Although, Chinese people tend to have rounder faces.
I doubt it. I'm full Chinese and grew up in Japan. Nobody could tell I was Chinese until I said I was.
You could search it on G00glez.
I don't know. I think that Japanese girls are statistically slimmer, so maybe their faces will be slimmer? I dunno...
chinese people normally have a flat face while japanese have a more chiseled look.
Try looking at some pictures and you should see the difference.
